How To Naturally Dye Your Easter Eggs

Dye your Easter eggs this year with ingredients you have in your own pantry! It’s fun + you’ll never believe the colors that you get from using whole food ingredients!

Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs
Create beautiful pastel colors for your Easter Eggs with food! This year, I used ingredients from my pantry to color my Easter eggs. Though they didn’t turn out as vibrant as I had originally planned, they were a beautiful pastel color and it was just overall a very fun & different experience!  I used what I had in my cupboard already- like cayenne, turmeric, beets and cabbage but feel free to experiment! It’s also fun to try out these colors with brown eggs vs. white eggs since brown eggs seem to have a deeper color with the natural dye. Here are some ideas on what foods to use & how to use them for your eggs this year!

Colors & Foods to Use!

Pink

  • 2 cups grated beets, Vinegar, 2 Cups of water

Yellow

  • 1 Tbsp powdered Turmeric, 2 Cups of water, Vinegar

Purple/ Blue

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage, Water, Vinegar

Orange

  • 3 tbsp Cayenne pepper, 2 cups water, Vinegar

Directions

  1. Bring ingredients and water to a boil. Turn heat down to low and simmer with a covered lid for 15 minutes – 1 hour depending on how dark you want your color to be. The egg colors will show a lot lighter than the colored liquid itself so keep in mind that you want to go for very rich colors!
  2. After desired color, remove liquid from heat and cool to room temperature.
  3. Pour liquid dye through a strainer and into a large enough container to dye eggs in. Mason jars work well!
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar per cup of liquid dye.
  5. Add hardboiled eggs to dye and place in fridge until you have your desired color! Can be 5 -24 hours depending on your preference.
